The Legal Submission Newsletter 10
It’s been a while but The Legal Submission has a ton of new vlogs and posts.
First off, I was a guest on the sports law podcast, Conduct Detrimental, discussing all things MMA Law.
I’ve also posted several new vlogs to The Legal Submission including three new boxing lawsuits.
UFC 261 took place this past Saturday in front of a capacity crowd at the VyStar Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. It was the first time that a full crowd has attended a indoor sporting event since the pandemic started. Dana White took issue with the Las Vegas Journal Review’s lead concerning the instructions indemnifying the UFC of any harm if someone were to contract COVID-19 at the event.
The event was a success posting 700K PPV buys on ESPN+ according to the SBJ’s John Ourand. Worldwide PPV sales likely pushed the event over 1 million buys.
Saturday night was a success all around for combat sports on ESPN as the UFC 261 Prelims on ESPN drew 733K viewers while the early prelims on ESPN2 drew 616K viewers. Top Rank Boxing also benefited from the UFC as the prelims on ESPN were the lead-in to the telecast and drew 733K viewers.
On the other end, the start to the Professional Fighters League on Friday night drew 156,000 viewers. The show had a lot of action and the use of technological stats was interesting as well. But, Anthony Pettis, one of the PFL’s prized signings, lost on the opening night of the season which was a disappointment. Clay Collard, who defeated Pettis, has been one of the most active fighters during the pandemic as he went 3-2 in boxing and now defeats Pettis after a couple years away from MMA.
