UFC 270 kicks off 2022 as the promotion’s first PPV of the new year. It is also the first time under the new PPV price point of $74.99 in addition to the ESPN+ subscription.
According to Dana White, in an interview with the OC Register, UFC 270 is a sellout with a gate of approximately $5 million. It would set a record at the Honda Center in terms of gate beating out The Rolling Stones.
The UFC announced on Friday a sponsorship deal with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s ‘Project Rock’ to be the company’s global footwear sponsor. The Rock’s, ‘Project Rock’ brand is made in conjunction with Under Armour. Financial terms were not disclosed.
UFC NFTs will finally make its debut on Sunday. The partnership with Dapper Labs which started pre-pandemic will finally be released to fans. Expect a similar process to NBA Top Shot (but hopefully without the technical hiccups). The packs will go for $50 each with athletes receiving a split of the proceeds.
In other news, UFC 269 drew 500K PPV buys on ESPN+ according to a report from the Sports Business Journals. The event featured Charles Oliviera defending his lightweight title against Dustin Poirier and Juliana Pena’s upset victory over Amanda Nunes to win the bantamweight title.
In addition to the UFC news, I have posted two new Legal Submissions. The first details the Terence Crawford lawsuit against Bob Arum. The second is the antitrust lawsuit filed by MLW against WWE.
Enjoy the fights Saturday!
