Happy New Year!
The Legal Submission is back with a new episode discussing the Terence Crawford lawsuit against Bob Arum.
In addition, Major League Wrestling filed a lawsuit against WWE claiming violations of the Sherman Antitrust Act.
Mark Hunt’s attorney had to clarify faulty reporting by MMA Fighting which stated that Hunt owed money to the UFC for his lawsuit against the company. The Order which was decided prior to his successful appeal required the fighter to pay the UFC in excess of $300K. But, the question is why pay this if you may eventually win the lawsuit? Hunt’s attorney stated he was going to appeal the ruling (i.e. Set Aside the Judgment) but that has yet to occur. Also, not yet happening was the UFC trying to collect on its $300K. As many attorneys who have dealt with this issue before, it will be very difficult for the UFC to have Hunt pay a judgment when he doesn’t live in the US.
In business news, the UFC is experiencing a boon. It renewed a deal with Manscaped for another 3 years as well as securing a ‘significant increase’ in a media deal in Spain and the Netherlands. There are several other media deals that are set to be renewed this year and expect those deals to see an increase in licensing over the last deal. UFC content is king right now and its popularity at the highest.
2022 looks to be another record high in profits for the UFC.
