British Heavyweight Dillian Whyte seeks court assistance for discovery in preparation for CAS Arbitration
Dillian Whyte has filed papers in a federal court in Florida seeking its assistance in obtaining a court order for discovery in his dispute against the World Boxing Council. Whyte claims that the WBC did not follow its own protocol in ensuring that its heavyweight champion defend its belt within 12 months. Whyte claims that he has been the organizations number 1 contender for years but has been “leapfrogged” by other boxers for a chance at the title.
Notably, Whyte filed a grievance with the WBC per its rules and regulations in June 2020. A then confidential settlement would have Whyte facing the Wilder-Fury III winner, but it did not happen. He requests in this lawsuit that Fury, the current WBC champion, be put in recess and make Whyte, the interim champion to be the WBC titleholder or face Wilder.
